La estructura proyectada del Museo de Colecciones Reales toma sus dimensiones y características de la necesidad de soportar los grandes empujes horizontales que se originan dada su proximidad a la Catedral de la Almudena y Palacio Real y al mismo tiempo la diafanidad que exigen las salas de exposición.
Esto nos ha llevado a proyectar una estructura muy rígida y al mismo tiempo diáfana, sin juntas de dilatación en sus 120m de longitud, toda ella en hormigón armado “blanco” formada por un muro pantalla de grandes contrafuertes que absorven gran parte de los empujes, losas macizas y pórticos de 20m de luz, cada 2m, con vigas y pilares ambos de 1m x 1m.
Structure dimensions and characteristics starts because of the need of supporting the large horizontal thrusts due to its proximity to the Almudena Cathedral and the Royal Palace and at the same time the width exhibition rooms demand.
This has led us to project a very stiff and diaphanous structure, with no expansion joints in its 120m length, all of it in “white” reinforced concrete formed by a wall of buttresses that absorb the main part of the thrust, solid slabs and structural gates of 20m wide, every 2m, with 1x1m beams and columns.
